The Unemployment Diaries: Reality Check

If you’d ever wondered if certain chores or activities would be more enjoyable if you did not have to hurry through them then please let me save you the hassle of quitting your job in the name of a social experiment. The following are no more fun or enlightening when you have hours to do them perfectly:

Cleaning

- a toilet is a toilet is a toilet. There is no zen for this one.
- mopping hardwood floors. At no time is listening to what is left of the cartilage in my knees pop enjoyable. Thus our kitchen floor has several spots where my socks stick.
-vacuuming. Annoying and tedious but does count as cardio. Not enough to make me do it every week but still.

Laundry

-folding it is better when you can linger over all the trashy TV you’ve recorded. No need to rush- there’s a Sex & the City marathon coming up!
-ironing. Nope. You’re still standing and do you really need to do your husband’s dress shirts when the dry cleaner does a better job and gets paid for it? And really, are linen napkins so important when you’re eating leftovers in front of the TV?

Exercise

-less incented than ever. I know there are thousands of the unemployed out there who are fitter and more buff than they have been in their adult lives but they just piss me off. I’m embracing sloth and can’t even muster a good excuse for not exercising except I DON’T LIKE IT.

If I missed any that you’d like me to explore then let me know. It would be nice to have something positive come out of a negative situation and lord knows I have the time!
